Dr. Joe Keene, Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts at Mercer University, examines the underside of a C-130 wing for corrosion using a portable X-ray fluorescence instrument. Spectral analysis of the data collected can determine the presence of corrosion products at the atomic level long before the extent of the corrosion becomes visible. MERC and Mercer University are collaborating on integrating this technology into customers’ maintenance processes and documentation.
