MERC developed a Central Computer Simulator for the F-15 in support of the Electronic Warfare Group at Warner Robins Air Logistics Center. The simulator application provides MIL-STD-1553 Avionics Bus control and supports communication with remote terminals up to the specified bus limit.
For added flexibility and ease of maintenance, MERC designed the simulator as a database-driven application that stores not only bus traffic in the database but also bus setup information.
Using an intuitive interface and the interface control documentation from the system under test, the user can program the bus data specification for each data message the simulator will transmit or receive.
At runtime, the application creates its own data display screens and provides man-readable data based on the message setup data. Changes in system interface details or the addition of other systems to the bus require only the alteration or addition of setup data in the database.
Although designed as an application to be used with the F-15 Tactical Electronic Warfare Suite (TEWS), the system can be easily adapted to any use where it serves as a MIL-STD-1553 bus controller without the need to modify or recompile the application source code.
