MERC has completed many projects in which a set of old technical data has been converted into modern 3D CAD models. In multiple projects, sets of old 2D drawings were converted into sets of 3D CAD models, which included embedded specifications.
For a 40mm cannon project, similarly, a set of old 2D drawings was also converted to 3D CAD models. For the HH-60G helicopter, old drawings were used to create a 3D CAD-based configuration tool, capable of showing the impact any TCTO modifications done to the base design.
In addition, MERC routinely uses a portable FARO arm coordinate measuring machine and laser scanner for creating 3D scan “point clouds” of existing objects which can then be turned into production-ready CAD models or drawing packages.
