Supporting Education and the Educator

For more than 20 years, MERC has provided rehabilitation engineering and technology support to children with disabilities and the parents and teachers who care for them. From 2-year-olds with cerebral palsy in the Babies Can’t Wait program to 18-year-olds with learning disabilities trying to graduate public high school, MERC has applied its breadth of knowledge and skill to tailoring accommodations for the physical and cognitive limitations faced by students with disabilities.

In several local school systems, MERC has provided training and support for teachers at all grade levels to help them adapt technology to learning plans and adapt learning plans to learning abilities. MERC has also collaborated with Bibb County Schools and with the Georgia Learning Resource System to receive federal and state grant awards that helped us show how systematic implementation of adaptive technology and adaptive techniques for teaching could support success for students of all abilities.
