Process Simulation and Optimization

MERC has implemented condition-based maintenance plus (CBM+) on DoD aircraft for over 15 years.  This prognostic and diagnostic maintenance strategy that monitors the actual condition of the aircraft to decide what maintenance needs to be done has improved both safety and aircraft uptime across multiple aircraft fleets.  MERC’s industrial engineering expertise also includes using computer simulation software to assist with manpower planning of an aircraft’s maintenance cycle.  Our industrial engineers have developed RAMP, a discrete event simulation model of the Warner Robins ALC flight line. RAMP simulates the flow of aircraft through depot maintenance facilities and will predict bottlenecks, queues, work in progress, flow time, throughput, and due date performance. Inputs to the RAMP tool include the number and types of docks, the production processes, and the induction schedule. Outputs of the model include summary statistics and detailed data based on daily and per-aircraft views.
