MERC designed and developed new Rainbow Fitting (RBF) installation tooling and two separate installation procedures. One set of procedures were created for the removal, replacement, and milling of legacy rainbow fittings using the new tooling set. The second set of procedures were developed for removal, replacement, and milling of the redesigned rainbow fittings, attach angles, and straps. Included in the second set of procedures are instructions on the modification of the skin panel to accommodate the redesigned RBF.
MERC has since provided multiple sets of the RBF tooling kits to USAF, FMS, and commercial customers and continues to support RBF replacement needs.
