Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC)

TAMPA, FLORIDA (May 22, 2014) —  MERC participated in the Annual Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in Tampa FL from 20-22 May.  SOFIC is an annual event that brings SOCOM acquisition officials together with industry and academia to review current requirements, challenges, and technological advancements in support of the Special Operations community.

The General Session included remarks from Admiral William H. McRaven, USN, Commander, USSOCOM and Mr. James F. Guerts, Acquisition Executive, USSOCOM.  One key area of emphasis within the SOCOM community is reducing operations and maintenance costs to reinvest in Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation.

MERC actively participated in breakout sessions with the Program Executive Officers for Fixed Wing, Rotary Wing, and Special Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Exploitation.

Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC) is the research and applied engineering arm of Mercer University, a private university founded in 1833. For over 175 years the University has served Georgia as a highly-respected educational institution. In 1984, the School of Engineering was established at the Macon, Georgia campus, with the charter class beginning studies in 1985.

Two years later, in 1987, the Mercer Engineering Research Center was established under the School of Engineering to provide locally available engineering and scientific services and critical specialized technical skills.
