To enhance the value of the system, MERC has developed a series of Computer-Based Training (CBT) modules to provide interactive training on the system components in a simulated usage environment. The CBT modules were implemented using the Mentergy Quest authoring system and XStream RapidBuilder simulation tools.
The data management system utilizes Oracle database technologies for data storage, management, and processing capabilities. The user interface, report generator, and specific item system customizations are all implemented using the Java programming language. The overall system comprises multiple individual applications to accommodate users at all levels of the commodity chain.
MERC’s Information Systems Division has designed and developed a flexible data management system for tracking a wide variety of commodities. The system was specifically designed to handle a full range of commodity types by including the definitions of individual data fields within the commodity data. This system allows for rapid customization to add new commodity types and to allow users with disparate needs to readily enter and update relevant data and to produce customized reports based on the requirements of a specific item.
