ESD software engineers also provide software design and programming for projects led by other MERC divisions. The ESD strives to produce innovative, cost-effective solutions to real world computer and electronic systems problems. The ESD employs a detailed system analysis approach to determine the best solution and then provides that solution in the most timely and cost-effective manner. The Embedded Systems Division (ESD) is responsible for systems engineering, software development, technology insertion, and software maintenance and support for electronic and computer-based systems. The ESD leverages the skills of electrical engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, and applied scientists to develop state-of-the-art electronic systems, apply new technologies to existing systems, and develop testing and support tools, models and simulations to support those systems.
