MERC was tasked to measure baseline helicopter airframe loads for flight regimes and maneuvers. MERC developed the test plan, including the instrumentation type and locations and the flight plan. A finite element model was constructed for correlating measurements.
MERC engineers defined instrumentation locations on the entire airframe. Shown here are tail boom strain gage and accelerometer locations.
MERC engineers determined optimum location of test transducers in limited access areas, such as the tail rotor gear box.
