Concurrent testing and analysis were performed to validate the design. The design and resulting part drawings were used to create a prototype assembly, which was installed in an MH-53 for functional check. After trial installation, the seat system was installed in several dozen aircraft for use by the Air Force. MH-53 Flight Engineer Seat Model MH-53 Flight Engineer Seat Prototype The U. S. Air Force desired to upgrade the flight engineer’s seat in the MH53 helicopter. MERC was tasked with designing, prototyping and testing a system that would improve ergonomics, crash protection and cockpit access.
