Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Two Linux server clusters processing MSC & NX Nastran, Abaqus, and LS-Dyna linear and nonlinear, static and transient structural analyses, SolidWorks.   Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) capabilities utilizing tools such as Kestrel, Pointwise, and Fieldview.

Reliability

14 fully equipped, dual monitor, workstations providing a collaborative environment where engineers, maintainers, reliability specialists, logisticians, and operators can freely discuss and resolve issues.  Equipped with 4 projectors combining to form a 32’ display to allow concurrent review of multiple data sets.

Material and Environment

A 265,000 lb., 110,000 lb., and two 22,000 lb. load frames for static and fatigue testing.  The 265,000 lb. load frame can test specimens up to 15 ft. length.  Testing capabilities include coupon tests for elastic and shear modulus, shear, tensile and compressive strength on fabricated metal and metal & composite sandwich panels. Level III certified personnel in all five (5) NDI techniques. 

Metrology and Rapid Prototype

Faro EDGE 9’ coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with point probe and laser scanner useful for precision part measurement, re-engineering, and reverse engineering leading TDP development and/or rapid prototype development. Mobile point probe measurement and laser scanning capabilities allow for measurement both in the lab and on-site. Traditional metrology equipment includes granite surface table, micrometers, calipers, height gages, depth gage, pin, plug and thread gages, bore and telescopic gages, and Stratasys Dimension 1200es 3D printer.

Machine Shop

Numerically controlled (CNC) Haas VF-3 vertical 3-axis milling machine with 40” X 20” X 25” capacity and a Haas TL-2 CNC lathe with  16” X 48” capacity, Bridgeport and Jet milling machines,  and vertical and radial drill presses.

Prototype Shop

Prototype fabrication using metallic and non-metallic materials. Equipment includes multiple Miller arc, MIG and TIG welders, a Cincinnati 10’ shear, a U.S. Machinery 10’ sheet metal brake press, horizontal band saws. Large overhead cranes allow for assembly and handling of large equipment.

Data Visualization

A collaborative environment to integrate large amounts of data with the knowledge of several SMEs in order to correctly identify the pertinent trends and deviations in data.  By linking multiple data sources, including a connection to the Robins AFB network, the SMEs can quickly research, mine, and update all types of engineering, maintenance, and supply records. 

Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS)

A collaborative environment to integrate large amounts of data with the knowledge of several SMEs in order to correctly identify the pertinent trends and deviations in data.  By linking multiple data sources, including a connection to the Robins AFB network, the SMEs can quickly research, mine, and update all types of engineering, maintenance, and supply records. 

Human Factors Usability

An eye gaze camera, specialized software, and other data collection instrumentation enable user testing of hardware and software for effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction.  Equipment is portable allowing user testing at customer facility or field. 

Ergonomics/Biomechanics

Permits the study of human system interactions with the goal of optimizing human wellbeing and overall system performance.  The labs provide opportunities to study physical and cognitive ergonomics and human factors through an extensive array of biomechanical sensing systems and simulation software.  Sensing systems available include an active marker motion capture system, floor load sensors, 6-channel Bluetooth-based Electromyography (EMG), and wireless force/grip sensors.  Software resources include human ergonomic simulation (JACK) and musculoskeletal simulation (OpenSim, SIMM, and AnyBody).   

Electronics

Instrumentation including temperature, EMI/EMC screening, reflow soldering ovens, and rapid printed circuit board prototype fabrication.  Digital and analog design & assembly, technology insertion, power supply engineering, communications, remote sensing, and electro-mechanics.  MILSPEC cable design and fabrication.  Toolsets include ALTIUM, ORCAD, SOLIDWORKS, SPICE, and MATLAB.

Support Equipment

Specialized Automatic Test Systems (ATS) design and development supporting electronic warfare and avionics systems.  Host ATS with the required power and cooling for hardware technology insertion or software test program set re-host activities.  Development and modification of both active and passive interface test adaptors for units under test.  Toolsets include LABVIEW, LABWINDOWS, and TESTSTAND.    

Software

Data management solutions, custom engineering applications, mobile apps. Windows PC development stations with dual monitors mounted on ergonomic sit/stand adjustable desks. Virtual test environments for testing, verification, and validation activities. Toolsets include a Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscription license for Visual Studio, Telerik licenses for visual component development. Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS). Tableau Visual Presentment Server. Mobile development for Android devices in Java using the WebSphere environment, and Apple Mac Pro for iOS development for Apple platforms.

Electronic Warfare

Digital, analog and RF signal analysis capability using COTS and MERC developed toolsets.  RF signal generation capability of communication and radar waveforms to include 4th generation radar waveforms.  External antenna and data capture hardware to support algorithm development for complex signals. Radar system simulation capability to evaluate the impact of RF countermeasures.

Energy

Energy management system integration with power, gas, water, thermal & industrial waste metering systems, process, and building management controls.  Independent measurement and verification of energy conservation and renewable & alternative energy technologies, and industrial system cybersecurity examination and compliance.
